Caffeine – Tea and Coffee for Reducing fatigue levels

Caffeine is a renowned product that has a drug-alike effect on the human body. It is classified as a drug and not a nutrient. But still it finds a place in the list of nutritional supplements as it is contained in several of everyday drinks such as tea and coffee. Coffee is considered to contain 50-100mg of caffeine per cup whereas a cup of tea is considered to contain approximately 30-60 mg of caffeine. Cola contains around 50 mg per 330 ml and energy drinks which are caffeinated contain approximately 100 mg of caffeine per 250 ml.

Caffeine is used endlessly in sports activity and normal life with an aim of reducing the levels of fatigue and increasing tolerance levels. The amount of caffeine that is required by an individual varies from person-to-person and not generally specified. Several studies conducted on the use of caffeine have revealed amount of 3-15 mg per kilogram of body weight and approximately 210-1050 mg for a average 70 kg athlete enough to derive a performance improvement effect through caffeine.

It is believed to increase the burning of fat in dosage above 5 mg per kilogram of body weight without affecting the glycogen level in the body. Caffeine stimulates the production of adrenaline which thereby boosts the amount of fatty acids released by the human body into the blood stream of mankind.

It is a common belief that the intake of caffeine before an exercise schedule helps in encouraging the body muscles to use more of body fat and less of glycogen and thereby delaying the fatigue.

Caffeine is a known stimulant which has a direct effect on the contraction of muscles. It stimulates the release of body calcium in the muscles cells of the human body providing the calcium present in the body to effectively stimulate the contraction of muscles of the body which thus raises the power output and strength. It is also known to excite the central nervous system of the body resulting performance of work at psychological level. It is often assumed to increase the level of concentration, reduces fatigue and raises the bar of working hard and remains motivated.

Caffeine Side Effects:

Caffeine can be used up to a defined level but overdose of caffeine can lead to numerous side-effects. In case you can not avoid caffeine for any reason, try to have caffeine free green tea which is slightly less prone to side-effects. And if still no other option is left, have an extra glass of water before and after doing exercises to reduce the caffeine effect.

  1. Nervousness.
  2. Anxiety and irritability.
  3. Insomnia and dizziness.
  4. Increase in heart rate.
  5. High levels of cholesterol.
  6. Depression and bed-wetting.

The least complicated way to diet in order to preserve muscle and burn excess bodyfat.

December 20, 2008

What I have found out to be the easiest way to explain to our justaddmuscle.com customers with out throwing 5 books of information at them and over whelming them with unnecessary conflicting diets is to teach them the low carb eating method. This is the easiest way to eat healthy, burn excess body fat and even look more muscular with out killing your self or eating boring diets. The best way to do it is to split your meals into 5-6 meals. Each meal should contain a protein source. Weather it is a whey protein shake,a piece of fish, steak or a meal replacer. Every meal should contain a 30-50 gram serving of protein depending on the persons size and protein needs. All the other side items with the protein should come from fibrous veggies. Such fibrous veggies can be string beans, brocolly, cauliflower, brussel sprouts or any other low cab veggies. Meal replacers such as Natures Best Isopure Perfect RX can be used to add a little bit of extra carbs in the day and keep metabolism burning. The idea is to keep carbs restricted for most of the day and manipulate insulin for post work out to immediately transport amino acids and protein after braking down muscle fibers during training. For this post work out drink we like to use fast acting starch carbohydrate called Waxy Maize witch I have talked about in previous post. Since you will be depleting carbs for most of the day except in your post work out drink then your body will readily absorb all the carbs from the waxy maize starch and shuttle them to glucose storages in depleted muscle cells. Along with the carbs it will transport Branched Chain Amino Acids,Glutamine or any other nutrients you find beneficial in putting in your post work out recovery drink. The idea behind this diet here is to keep the body burning fat for energy and deplete it from carbs except in that one hour opportunity window right after your work out when you want to flood it with carbs and nutrients. One day per week you can eat a lot of carbs to flood your muscles and to reset your metabolism so it does not get stale. Try this for a few weeks and I can guarantee you will see amazing results fast with out having to read 50 dieting and training books. Very interesting information on Mangosteen. The strongest antioxidant source to fight cancer cells.

December 19, 2008

History

Named for the French priest and explorer Laurentiers Garcin (1673-1751), the mangosteen is thought to have originated in Southeast Asia. Its scientific name is Garcinia mangostana and today the fruit tree is cultivated in the tropical regions of both the eastern and western hemispheres with commercial plantations in Thailand, India, Malaysia, and the Philippines. A number of other countries in both Asia and South and Central America are smaller producers of the fruit. Prized because of its excellent flavor, in Asia it is called “the queen of fruits” and in the French Caribbean “the food of the Gods.” Garcinia mangostana belongs to the family Guttiferae which includes over 800 species of plants. Two of the relatives of the mangosteen, Hypericum perforatum (St. John’s wort) and Garcinia cambogia have already become well known as medicinal plants. What is amazing is that the mangosteen (no connection with the mango) has never been utilized for its multiple health benefits in North America or Europe despite history and popularity as a folk remedy in Asia, Africa, and South America. Until recently, it has been one of nature’s best-kept secrets. From the time a seed is planted, a mangosteen tree takes from 7 to 10 years to yield fruit. Even though the mangosteen is one of the slowest growing of the tropical fruit trees, it can reach 75 feet in height.

Garcinone E may be potentially useful for the treatment of certain types of cancers

Author: Ho CK, Huang YL, Chen CC
Source: Planta Med. 2002 Nov;68(11):975-9

Treatment of hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs) with chemotherapy has generally been disappointing and it is most desirable to have more effective new drugs. We extracted and purified 6 xanthone compounds from the rinds (peel) of the fruits of Garcinia mangostana L., using partitioned chromatography and then tested the cytotoxic effects of these compounds on a panel of 14 different human cancer cell lines including 6 hepatoma cell lines, based on the MTT method. Several commonly used chemotherapeutic agents were included in the assay to determine the relative potency of the potential new drugs. Our results have shown that one of the xanthone derivatives which could be identified as garcinone E has potent cytotoxic effect on all HCC cell lines as well as on the other gastric and lung cancer cell lines included in the screen. We suggest that garcinone E may be potentially useful for the treatment of certain types of cancer.
